As a working mom and wife, life can sometimes get ahead of me. To prevent this from happening, it is important that I set aside time each week, sometimes several times in a week, to stay on top of all the happenings. Below are a few ways I prepare my family for the week.
- Plan, plan, and plan some more. This is the most important step in my opinion because it is like
a road map. Planning allows you to see the road in front of you in space and time. When I say
plan, I am not talking about events and appointments. I am including meals, cleaning, and
budgets to name a few. Knowing your meals before heading to the store can save on cash too
because you are not distracted by things you don’t need. Cleaning helps keep your life
decluttered, allowing you to focus on the things that really matter. And who does not love a good budget??? There is not any wrong in telling your money where to go!
- Organize. Separate your plan by work, home, school, church, etc. This helps make the plan less overwhelming and more doable. Also, it helps you identify areas you may have overlap.
- Prepare. Do what you can ahead of time. If you can meal prep, I usually do salads and healthy snacks to grab throughout the day. I also try to do my daughters hair in a way that will last a couple of days to save time in the morning. But this can be as simple as putting your bags near the door if you are just beginning.
- Execute. With your plan in place, it is now time to do. You know what you need to get done and when, you have mapped out your week and prepared all you need. Now put one foot in front of the other, go forth, and do great things.
Getting into the groove and sticking to a plan can be challenging at first, but there is nothing wrong with having a plan to change a plan. Stick with it, adjust, and take lead again. I fall off all the time, especially when we are incorporating new events into our routine. Again, I get up and roll with it.
